2019 Orange Orange
Approachable now but this wine will continue to evolve over the next 3-5 years. Serve at a cool but not cold temperature of about 12-13C in order to show the wine’s aromatic potential. Decanting and aerating will also reveal a much more complex profile.
A medium amber colour, with a highly expressive nose. The nose is dominated by floral notes of jasmine and orange blossom along with dried orange peel, paraffin and a hint of cardamom. As it sits in the glass, layers of complex flavours continue to evolve. The palate is bone-dry with bright acidity and volume created by tannins on the palate. Flavours of tangerine and pomelo are added to the dried fruit and floral notes that match the aromas.
Shuttleworth Creek Vineyard, Okanagan Falls (gravels and coarse glacial till)
Fruit was sourced from our Orange Muscat vines at our Shuttleworth Creek Vineyard. Hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness, it was hand-sorted, destemmed and fermented on skins in a stainless steel fermenter, with twice-daily punch-downs. After 3 weeks of skin contact fermentation with both indigenous and cultivated yeasts, the must was drained and gently basket-pressed into one neutral Acacia barrel for ageing. The wine in barrel went through full malolactic conversion. The Orange Orange was bottled in August 2020, unfined and unfiltered.
